چکیده
Nitrogen (N) inputs to agricultural systems contribute substantially soil nitrate (NO3−) concentrations, which increase NO3− leaching and contamination of groundwater. The influence microbes in regulating concentrations the topsoil are well studied but it is often assumed that microbial regulation subsoil negligible. aim this study was test assumption by determining relationships between properties both topsoil. We measured size mineralizable N (Nm) pool, (microbial biomass, bacterial richness), nitrifier gene abundance (amoA copy number), denitrifier (nirK nirS enzyme activity a well-drained stony under an established lucerne crop. used structural equation modelling (SEM) identify compare linkages with at each depth. In topsoil, we found higher Nm, abundance, denitrification activity, richness, biomass than those subsoil, there were no these variables (the SEM model explained 0.06% variability concentrations). contrast, strongly correlated amoA associated significantly Nm. richness also Nm subsoil. Our findings highlight 82% concentrations) suggest nitrification may contributes reducing conclude studies addressing drivers need consider potential for microbially-mediated attenuation (or increase) throughout profile.

Stoichiometric Characteristics of Carbon, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus in Leaves of Differently Aged Lucerne (Medicago sativa) Stands
Element concentration within a plant which is vital to function maintenance and adaptation to environment, may change with plant growth. However, how carbon (C), nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P) vary stoichiometrically with stand growth, i.e., ages or cuts, was still untouched in perennial species. This study tested the hypothesis that lucerne (Medicago sativa) C:N, C:P, and N:P should change w...
متن کاملSomatic embryogenesis and Agrobacterium mediated genetic transformation in Indian accessions of lucerne (Medicago sativa L.)
Plant regeneration in lucerne (Medicago sativa) is highly genotype dependent and inspite of considerable information on in vitro regeneration in this species the Indian genotypes have not been investigated so far. A system of recurrent somatic embryogenesis (RSE) was established for the first time in Indian accessions of lucerne and utilized for Agrobacterium mediated genetic transformation. Se...
متن کاملCharacteristics of the rumen proteolysis of fraction I (18S) leaf protein from lucerne (Medicago sativa L).
1. The rate of proteolysis of fraction I (18S) leaf protein in the rumen of sheep of cattle was affected by diet ans the rate on fresh lucerne (medicago sativa L) was three to nine times the rate on a hay + concentrate diet. 2. Simultaneous rumen fermentations in vivo and in an artificial rumen showed that the rates of proteolysis of fraction I in vitro was approximately 30% of the rates in she...

The hypersensitve response (HR) is an expression of resistance in plants that occurs at the point of infection by a microorganism. It involves expression of a number of active defence responses and synthesis of defence related molecules. Phytoalexin synthesis is one such defence response, and its occurrence in Medicago satjva (lucerne) tissues is the subject of our present studies. Phytoalexin ...
متن کاملPassage and digestibility of lucerne (Medicago sativa) hay in Japanese sika deer (Cervus nippon) and sheep under restricted feeding.
The mean retention time (MRT) of stained hay through the whole digestive tract and its digestibility were measured in Japanese sika deer (Cervus nippon) and were compared with those in sheep when lucerne (Medicago sativa) hay was fed at 10, 20 and 30 g/kg body-weight. The recoveries in faeces of plastic particles with five specific gravities were also measured in deer. MRT for deer was signific...
